To be honest, I wasn't terribly impressed with Van at the start. But he really grows on a person. The wings helped. But really its his impetuousness tempered with responsibility, a wicked combination. You try to be both. His whole world got turned upside down. Starting with the death of his father and the disappearance of his older brother just before he would have taken the thrown. That left Van with trying for it himself, not an easy thing considering he had to kill a dragon as part of the succession. I've finally finished the series. And I want MORE!
